FAITH is an EU-funded research project that aims to provide an Artificial Intelligence application that remotely identifies depression markers, using Federated Learning, in people that have undergone cancer treatment.
Cancer has an incidence of more than 18 million new cases each year, according to WHO. Cancer patients face several challenges, which can degrade their mental health and lead to experiencing anxiety, sadness, or depression. Such signs can be identified by healthcare personnel, while the patient is being followed in consultation, but can pass unnoticed when the person recovers some autonomy being at home.
The FAITH concept would present healthcare providers with advanced warnings to allow timely intervention, giving patients the possibility to improve their quality of life and receive intelligent post-cancer support. Trial sites in Madrid and Lisbon will assess and test the concept to ensure its usefulness, involving real end users (both clinicians and patients).
OBJECTIVES
The main goal of FAITH is to develop a better model for mental health monitoring during disease and treatment for cancer patients, to improve their quality of life. In order to reach this overall goal, the project will pursue three smaller objectives:
Developing an AI application
that remotely identifies and
analyses depression markers.
Testing the AI application
involving end users
to ensure its usefulness.
Fostering awareness
of cancer patients'
mental health status.
